Debutant Young set up a victory for Ireland in the 1st ODI - The first ODI of Scotland’s tour of Ireland was played in Dublin on 8th of September. This was the first match and both the teams wanted to win it. Ireland after winning the toss decided to field first. This proved to be a good toss to win as the Irish bowlers made merry with the ball. The Scotland team lost the first wicket in the 5th over of the game. Calum MacLeod and Hamish Gardiner who built up a partnership which didn’t lasted too long as the 2nd wicket fell in the 11th over when MacLeod lost his wicket after scoring 25 runs. The wickets started to tumble for the visitors as they reached a score of 97 runs losing 6 wickets in the process. Michael Leask was the man who saved a bit of reputation for the Scottish team as he scored 50 runs taking his team to a score of 172. The Irish team was not disciplined in bowling as they gave away 21 extras in this match. Craig Young was the bowler who made all the difference to the match as he took 5 wickets giving away only 46 runs.

A target of 173 is an easy one for any team playing in home condition and so it was for the Irish side. The opener Andy Balbirine scored 38 runs while the captain Kevin O’Brien led his team in batting as he scored 56 runs. He remained unbeaten till the end. Stuart Thompson was the partner for his captain and they together brought the team home. Thompson played a knock of 35 runs as the Irish team won the match in the 37th over itself. The debutant Craig Young was the difference between the two teams and the young buy will surely be a talent to look out for.
