Lord's Cricket Ground

Popularly known as the Lord's, the Lord's Cricket Ground is located at St. John's Wood in London. It was named after Thomas Lord who happens to be its founder. Its establishment dates back to the year 1814. It can easily accommodate 32,000 cricket lovers for a match. It is also known as the Home of Cricket world-over. The first Test match to be ever played on this ground was between England and Australia in July, 1884. The first one day international match was played on 26 August, 1972 between the same teams that played the first test match on this ground. In 2012 England was defeated by South Africa which made the latter the top ranked test team in the world. In 2011 the 2000th test match was played at Lord’s between India and England in which latter were victorious by 196 runs. The same year it served as the venue for Kumara Sangakkara's MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture. Lord's has the oldest sporting museum in the world. A lot of changes were brought about in this cricket ground with its rebuilding in the later part of the twentieth century. In 1998-9, the Media Centre was added to it which won the Royal Institute of British Architects Stirling Prize.
