The 5th T20 match of Big Bash League was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Adelaide Strikers at Blundstone Arena Stadium on 13 Dec 2020. Strikers won the toss and invited Hurricanes to bat first. D'Arcy Short and Will Jacks came to open for Hurricanes and the ball was given to Daniel Worrall.

Both the openers played well and added 63 runs to the scoreboard. But a length ball from Agar took the wicket of Jacks in the 9th over. He was caught at the midwicket field by Gibson. Then Collin Ingram joined D’Arcy Short and both the batsmen took the scoreboard to 131 runs. Then a slower one from Agar took the wicket of Shorts. He tried to hit over the point but it was missed and went to the third man. Worrall at the third man made no mistake and took the catch. That was the end of Short’s inning. He made excellent 72 runs from 48 balls with four 6s and six 4s. Finally, the Hurricanes gave a target of 175 runs to the opposition in 20 overs.

Wes Agar did bowl well and took two wickets for his team. Then it was the time for Strikers to bat and needed 175 runs to win. From the Strikers side, Phil Salt & Jake Weatherald were sent to open the innings and James Faulkner got the new ball. It was not a good start for Adelaide and they lost their first wicket at the score of 6 runs in the second over. Salt in the next over also lost his wicket and Strikers were in trouble. Matt Renshaw was the next batsman and he tried to release some pressure. Renshaw and Worrall tried well but in the end, Strikers lost the match by 11 runs. Worrall’s not out inning of 62 runs from just 39 balls was wasted but he played very well and tried hard to take over the match.

James Faulkner, Botha, and Meredith bowled well. Faulkner got 3 wickets, Botha and Meredith took 2 wickets in the match. Man of the Match award was given to Shorts for his tremendous performance of 72 runs.
