The 1st test match of the 4 matches Test series between Australia and India was held on December 17-21 of 2020, Thursday at Adelaide Oval. Wicket-keeper batsman Tim Paine was the captain of the Australian team, and Virat Kohli was the captain of the Indian team. India won the toss and chose to bat first.

Mayank Aggarwal and Prithvi Shaw opened the inning for India. Prithvi Shaw failed once again and got out on duck to Mitchell Starc. Mayank Aggarwal also failed to score runs and got out on 17 runs. C Pujara batted brilliantly with patience and made 43 runs. Captain Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane made 88 runs partnership for the 4th wicket. Virat Kohli scored most 74 runs for India, but unfortunately, he got run out. Rahane made 42 runs, and India made 244 runs in the 1st inning. Mitchell Starc took most 4 wickets in 1st inning for Australia.

Matthew Wade and Joe Burns opened the innings for Australia. Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly with the new ball. Australia lost both openers on just 29 runs. Steven Smith got out on just 1 run to R Ashwin. M Labuschagne made 47 runs for Australia. Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly, and the Australian team got all out on 191 runs. Tim Paine played Captain knock and made most 73 runs for Australia. The Indian team took a lead of 53 runs after 1st innings.

Indian batting horribly collapsed in the 2nd inning. Indian team made their lowest total in Test cricket. India got all out on just 36 runs in the 2nd inning. The Indian team got all out within 90 minutes. Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins bowled dreamy spell for the Australian team. Pat Cummins took 4 wickets, and Josh Hazlewood took 5 wickets. It was a really disappointing performance by Indian batsmen. The Indian team lost the grip on the match, and Australia dominated over Indian team in the 2nd inning. It was a target of 90 runs for Australia to win the match.

Australian openers gave a brilliant start of 70 runs and took the team very close to victory. Joe Burns played not out 51 runs inning and finished the game for his team. Matthew Wade also scored 33 runs. The Australian team won the match by 8 wickets and took an early lead of 1-0 in the series. Australian captain Tim Paine was selected as player of the match for his brilliant batting performance in 1st inning and his brilliant bowling changes and captaincy.
