A dramatic test between Pakistan and New Zealand ends up in a draw - The test matches in the recent time have been fascinating as they have gone to the last ball of the game to decide the winner. The 2nd test between New Zealand and Pakistan was no less than these matches as in the last session of the last day no team was favorites to win the game that easily. The match grew in stages as after winning the toss on first day New Zealand decided to bat first.

The Opening pair of Brendon McCullum and Tom Latham gave the team a great start scoring 77 runs for the 1st wicket. Later Kane Williamson came into bat and he along with Latham took the teams total to a massive 153 runs. This was the partnership that held its nerve and made sure that the fall of wicket didn’t allow the home team to seep into the game. Williamson after scoring 32 runs lost his wicket. Latham was batting from one end and Ross Taylor joined in him after scoring 23 runs made his way in the final moments of the match as New Zealand ended their day at 243/3. Latham was on crease with a score of 137 runs.

The 2nd day gave Pakistan a chance of coming back as they took the wicket of Latham early in the day and didn’t allow him to add a single run to his overnight score. James Neesham too lost his wicket after scoring 17 runs only it seemed that the home team will be coming back in the game but the partnership between BJ Watling and Mark Craig took the visitors to a total of 403. Watling scored 39 while Craig scored 43 runs. Zulfiqar Babar took 4 wickets for Pakistan in the 1st innings. Pakistan openers didn’t give the team a good start and they ended the 2nd day at 34/2.

The 3rd day saw Azhar Ali and Younis Khan score some good runs for the team and took the total to 145 before Younis lost his wicket after scoring 72 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq failed to in the game and lost his wicket scoring only 28 runs. Azhar Ali lost his wicket when Pakistan reached only a score of 220. He lost his wicket after scoring 75 runs. The Pakistan ended their day at 281/6 with Sarfraz Ahmed still on crease.

The 4th day saw Sarfraz playing his strokes as he scored 112 runs in the innings to take his team to a total of 393. The team was bowled out in which Tim Southee played an important role taking 3 wickets. The New Zealanders failed to gain a good lead and hence the match was at a tie till the 4th day. The 2nd innings saw Ross Taylor and Brendon McCullum play one of their best knocks of the game. McCullum scored 45 runs while Taylor ended the day not out at 77. The visitors were at 167/6 with game evenly poised.

The final day
had all the possibilities in store and Taylor took his personal score to 104 and helped the visitors reach a 2nd innings total of 250 setting up a target of 261 for Pakistan. The home team had all the chances of winning the game as they were put into bat before lunch. They had a good amount of overs to chase the score. Shan Masood scored 40 runs while Younis Khan scored 44 runs. With the fall of wicket of Younis Khan the team went into defensive mode and hence the match ended up in a draw. The Pakistan team ended the match at 196/5 with Asad Shafiq not out at 41. Ross Taylor was named as the man of the match for his 2nd innings century and the series is led by Pakistan 1-0 after 2 tests.
