Australia wins the 1st ODI riding on Steven Smith’s century - The Australians after winning the T20 match started off their One Day Series against Pakistan playing in the Sharjah stadium. After winning the toss the Australians decided to bat first. Batting first Aaron Finch lost his wicket without scoring a single run but David Warner continued from where he left in the last match. He along with Steven Smith took the team to a score of 86 before losing his wicket. Warner scored 43 runs in the match. Smith took charge of the batting as Warner left but he ran out of partners. The Australian middle order failed to have a great effect on the match as all the batsmen scored 15-20 runs in the match and lost their wicket. Smith was the only player who scored 101 runs taking his team to a total of 255 runs. Mitchell Johnson and Brad Haddin played a vital role in taking the team to this total. Johnson scored 21 runs while Haddin scored 23 runs. Shahid Afridi was the key bowler for the team as he took 3 wickets giving away runs at 4.6 economy rate.

Pakistan needed 256 runs to win the 1st match but they didn’t get a good start in the match. Ahmed Shehzad lost his wicket after scoring 4 runs in the match. Sarfraz Ahmed and Asad Shafiq tried to control the game for their team. After taking the team to a score of 59, Sarfraz lost his wicket after scoring 34 runs. Later the team lost 2 more wickets at a score of 63. In just 14th over of the game the home team lost 4 wickets which was a great setback. Umar Akmal scored 46 runs in the game while the rest of the batsmen failed to score much. The team was bowled out at a score of 162 runs thus losing the match by 93 runs. Mitchell Johnson was the best bowler for the team taking 3 wickets in the game.

With this win the Australians now lead the three match series by 1-0 and Steven Smith was named as the man of the match for his outstanding batting performance.
