Fastest 50 in ODI

Cricket fans have witnessed many moments when a batter struck 50 runs in the minimum balls. Following AB de Villiers, several other players have also accomplished this remarkable feat. Therefore, let us examine in detail the players who have achieved the fastest 50 in ODI cricket:

1. AB de Villiers (16 balls)

The South African batter, AB de Villiers comes at the top position for making the fastest 50 in the history of ODI. He did this spectacular deed against West Indies at Johannesburg, January 18, 2015. In the 2nd ODI against West Indies, South Africa batted first and AB de Villiers who came first down added 144 runs which included his fastest 50 runs from just 16 balls. In reply, West Indies could make 291 and thus South Africa won that match by 148 runs.

2. Sanath Jayasurya (17 Balls)

The final match of the Singer Cup in 1996 was a game where not many runs were scored. Pakistan batted first and could only manage to score 215 runs. However, Sri Lanka had an incredible start to their innings, thanks to their star batsman, Sanath Jayasuriya who achieved the quickest fifty in One Day Internationals (ODIs) in 17 balls only. Jayasuriya continued his excellent batting and scored 76 runs off just 28 balls. However, Sri Lanka eventually got all out for 172 runs.

3. Kusal Perera (17 Balls)

Sri Lankan batter Kusal Perera comes in the 3rd place for making the fastest 50 in the One Day International. He made this extraordinary effort while playing against Pakistan in the 2nd ODI at Pallekele in 2015. Pakistan and Sri Lanka met each other for the 2nd ODI on July 15, 2015 where Pakistan batted first and added 287 runs. In reply, Sri Lanka started well and added a 92 runs partnership for the 1st wicket in which Perera added 68 runs including the fastest fifty from 17 balls. Sri Lanka achieved the target in 28.1 overs and won the match by 2 wickets. Kusal Perera was named Man of the Match in that game.

4. Martin Guptill (17 Balls)

Martin Guptill, a former New Zealand opener, holds the 4th spot for the quickest fifty in ODI. He did this remarkable feat while performing against Sri Lanka at Christchurch in 2015. Sri Lanka visited New Zealand in 2015 where both teams gathered for the 2nd ODI on December 28, 2015. Sri Lanka scored 117 runs, which New Zealand easily chased down, thanks to Guptill's unbeaten 93 runs, including a fastest 50 in just 17 balls.

The English batter Liam Livingstone is sitting at the number 5th position for making the fastest 50 in ODI.
