Australia is considered one of the best teams in the history of cricket, especially in one-day internationals (ODI). In this article, we will look at some of the Australian players who have achieved the fastest 50 runs in ODI matches. 

 

1. Simon O’Donnell

Simon O’Donnell stands in the number 1 position for making the fastest 50 in ODI for Australia. In the second semi-final of the Austral-Asia Cup in 1990 at Sharjah, Australia won the coin toss and chose to bat first. They had a great beginning, with all the batters performing really well. As a result, Australia scored a total of 323 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their 50 overs. Simons, one of the players, scored 74 runs in the innings and also set a new record for the fastest 50 in just 18 balls. 

 

2. Glenn Maxwell

Australian all-round performer, Glenn Maxwell holds the 2nd place for achieving the fastest 50 in ODI for Australia. Maxwell achieved this remarkable feat while playing against India in the last competition of the 7 ODI series at Bengaluru in 2013. India batted first and set a massive target, scoring 383 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. Australia had a tough start in their chase, losing their first four wickets for just 74 runs. However, Glenn Maxwell showcased his exceptional batting skills, reaching a fifty in only 18 balls and ultimately scoring 60 runs off 22 balls. 

 

3. Aaron Finch

In a match against Sri Lanka on August 31, 2016, at Dambulla, Aaron Finch achieved the third-fastest 50 for Australia in ODI. Sri Lanka batted first and added 212 runs on the scoreboard. With a small target to chase, Aaron Finch opened the innings and dominated the game. He smashed a half-century in just 18 balls and scored 55 runs off only 19 balls. His innings included eight fours and three sixes, giving Australia a fantastic start.

 

4. David Hussey

David Hussey is sitting at the number 4th position for making the fastest 50 in ODI for Australia. He did this feat while playing against West Indies in the 5th match of the 5 ODI series at Basseterre in 2008. Australia batted first after winning the toss and scored an incredible 341 runs. David Hussey who came at the 7 number contributed 52 runs from 21 balls including the quickest 50 in 19 balls only. 

 

5. Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell is listed in the 5th position for creating the record of the fastest 50 in ODI for Australia. He achieved this feat while playing against Afghanistan in the 26th match of the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2015. Australia added a massive total of 417 runs even after losing its first wicket very early. Maxwell came in the 4th position in that match and added the quickest 88 runs including the fastest 50 in just 21 balls.
