An emerging name in Australian cricket squad is Matthew Wade. Matthew Scott Wade was born on 26 December 1987 in Hobart, Tasmania. He is has represented the Australian national team as wicket keeper in all three forms of cricket (Test, ODI and Twenty20 international). Wade started his career representing Tasmania in underage cricket and underage football in TAC cup. He represented Australia at the 2006 under-19 cricket World cup. He switched to Victoria for the 2007-08 season in search of further opportunities. He soon fixed his position as Victoria’s first choice wicket-keeper and was selected in the Australia A squad in 2010. He made his Test debut on 7 April 2012 against West Indies. Wade was part of the Australian team for the 2011-12 tour of the West Indies as wicket-keeper in place of Brad Haddin. He made his maiden Test Century (106) in 3rd Test in Roseau. Wade was then selected, keeping aside Haddin for Australia following Test series against Africa in November 2012. He made ODI debut on 5 February 2012 against India. He was called up to Australian One Day International team for the 2011-12 Common wealth Bank series. He was awarded Man of the Match on his debut, scoring 67 runs for 69 balls against India on Melbourne Cricket Ground. Wade made T20 international debut on 13 October 2011 against South Africa. Watching his success in domestic limited overs cricket, Wade was called for first time in October, for Twenty20 International against South Africa. In February 2012, he made a breakthrough as a T20 international player against India, opening the batting squad and scoring 72 runs off 43 balls to win Man of the Match award. Talking about domestic cricket, Wade had a fantastic career in it. He played one list A matches for Tasmania Tiger in 2006-07 Ford Ranger One Day cup season. Wade score his maiden first class century in 2008-09 season. He made important contributions to Victoria’s win in the 2009-10 Sheffield Shield final against Queensland when he scored 96 runs for his team. Wade was given Man of the Match award. In first class cricket, he has been an important batsman for the Bushrangers since he is a consistent run scorer. Wade’s destructive batting can be seen in one day domestic competition and Twenty20 Big Bash League where he played some orthodox and innovative shots. In January 2011, Wade signed up with Delhi Daredevils in Indian Premier League. Till now , Wade has scored 623 runs in test and 641 in ODI with a batting average of 34.61 and 22.89 respectively. He has scored 2 centuries in Test cricket and his top score was of 106 runs. Wade enjoys seamer and pace on the ball. He is strong against short pitch ball and has the ability to make elegant cuts and drives. Wade’s talent as a keeper is not less than his batting skills. Wade’s reliability over the field and quick reflexes to catch the ball impress others very often. Days will come soon when he will be a permanent member of Australian cricket team, sending the balls out of the boundary.
