Tharanga powers his team to a comfortable win against the Southern Express - The Ultratech super 4’s Twenty 20 cup of Sri Lanka saw the second match played between Southern Express and Udarata Rulers. The Southern Express under the captaincy of Lasith Malinga won the toss and elected to bat first. The decision taken by the captain was soon proved wrong as the team lost two wickets pretty early. The Opener Tillakaratne Sampath was bowled out by Dilhara Lokuhettige in the very first ball the batsman faced. The 5th ball of the match saw the batting side losing their first wicket. In the 1st ball of the 3rd over saw the second wicket of the match. Kusal Perera after some resistance lost his wicket in the 8th over of the match scoring 24 runs. It was Danushka Gunathilaka who managed to guide his team to a fighting total. He managed to score 54 runs in 46 balls. The Southern Express was derailed in the 20th over of the game as they scored only 141 runs. Asela Gunaratne was the top wicket taker for the match as he took 4 wickets giving away 38 runs.

While chasing the score of 142 the Rulers got a solid side from the openers of the team. The opening pair lasted till the 7th over of the innings scoring 63 runs at a rate of 10 runs per over. Later the captain Upul Tharanga and Shehan Jayasuriya with their batting guided the team to a pretty easy victory in the match. Tharanga played a 59 run innings in 34 balls. Jayasuriya played an anchor role with an innings of 37 runs. The team scored 144 runs in 17.2 over losing only 3 wickets. Seelluge Prasanna was the highest wicket taker for the team taking 2 wickets, while Tillakaratne Sampath was the most economical bowler in the innings. Asela Gunaratne got Man of the Match award for his brilliant 4 wickets in 3.5 over. With this victory the Udarata Rulers earned 2 points in the tournament.
