The Champions Trophy is one of the most awaited One-Day International (ODI) cricket tournaments organized by International Cricket Council. This year it would be the 7th & final season of Champions Trophy 2013. This year, the high profile championship would be hosted by England & Wales and the tournament is scheduled to start from June 6 –June 23, 2013. 3 cities are declared to host the 2013 Champions Trophy matches, namely Cardiff, London & Birmingham.
The Champions Trophy 2013 will involve 8 teams from the leading cricket playing countries of the world. These are India, South Africa, Australia, England New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and West Indies. The 8 teams from the championship have been divided into two groups- Group A & Group B. The teams included in Group A are Australia, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and England. The teams allotted for Group B are India, South Africa, West Indies & Pakistan.
The Champions Trophy 2013 will have 12 group matches from June 6 to June 17, 2013. Each of the teams would be playing against every squad in its own group once. After the group level matches, the top 2 teams from Group A & B would contest for semi-finals. The winner of Group A will play with runner-up of Group B while the winner of Group B would be playing with runner-up of Group A. The semi-final winners would come face to face in the final match which is scheduled for June 23, 2013 in Edgbaston Cricket Ground.
The first match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 is between India & South Africa which is to be hosted by Sophia Gardens. All together 15 matches (including group level matches, semi finals and final) would be played throughout Champions Trophy 2013.
