Sehwag, Zaheer out of Champions Trophy 2013

Sehwag is not at all a consistent player and would have been dropped earlier if we had Ajinkya Rahane or Shikhar Dhawan.

Now India has found enough of the openers to replace Sehwag and even if Gambhir fails, he will be replaced as well.

Zaheer Khan is too much of injury prone and is very slow on the field as well but with evolving players like Shami Ahmed, Bhubhneshwar Kumar, team India will look far more interesting and that will also secure Indian Team future if these young players are nurtured from now on.

Dhoni is a great leader and they will surely gain a lot under his captaincy.

Example: Bhubhneshwar has already learnt how to bowl long spells when Dhoni used him for straight away ten overs in ODIs which will prove beneficial for him in Tests.

Thing to see is that who will be the opening pair.

Gautam Gambhir/Ajinkya Rahane or Gautam Gambhir/Murali Vijay or Gautam Gambhir/Shikhar Dhawan or Ajinkya Rahane/Shikhar Dhawan or any other combination.

With current form of Murali Vijay, he is unlikely to be picked up and so there could be competition between 3 players for the opening slot. Each of them will try to perform best in IPL to grab that position.

We will see that in the month of June.

Zaheer Khan gave a very promising performance to Indian side and the 2003 Worldcup and delivered some of the best bowling figures with Ashish Nehra helping him on the other side. But after that both of them are regular prone to the injuries and this has surely drastically affected the bowling side of India. Although now there are various new bowlers who are delivering very well, still the void created by him is still not good. Praveen Kumar is a nice bowler.

But still Indian side is lacking the bowling quality as of Australian side or the African side. We still need those fast bowlers that can create threat in the mind of batsman.
