Shahid Afridi out of Champions Trophy 2013

Pakistan cricket board finally announced the 15 members squad for upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2013 and surprisingly Shahid Afridi is not in the list.

The reason behind this is the poor performance by Shahid Afridi from past one year.

What's your take on this decision? 
Although Shaid Afiridi is a destructive Batsman, but he has not bee very consistent when it comes to batting. He is a good all rounder, but never showed some regular performance. 

Surely it will be a setback for the Pakistan team, but there are others who can play good.

@Pankaj: My gut feel says that when you are under going re-building phase of the team, keep few experienced players as well so that team performance is not hampered.
If you bring in all the new players, pressure will be mounted on them and there will be a tendency that expected result might not be seen.
It is a good move that Pakistan Cricket board has retained few experienced players thinking of a future strong Pakistan Team but I feel that Shahid Afridi should have been retained.
It is not only that he is an explosive batmen but he provides valuable contribution with ball as well as his fielding. His presence at the crease in itself is a threat to most of the bowlers still who change their line and length when he comes on to bat.
If Misbah can be retained, I prefer Shahid Afridi to be retained as well.

Speaking frankly I have never been admirer of Afridi as a batsmen.
Not to deny the fact that the guy has raw power and if he can get behind the ball, he can send them miles. I haven't forgotten the massacre that he caused to Indian bowlers when he has hit the fastest century in an ODI match.
But again if you look at that inning, there were only slogs and Indian bowlers were just bowling length.
He is an experienced player and a good bowler who reads the batsmen mind and bowl accordingly. Pakistan should have kept him in the squad at least for his bowling skills and the experience he carries with himself.
He can contribute with the bat as well sometimes and in fact he must have been given priority above Shoaib Malik.
