Another big match of the season being played between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Both the teams need a win desperately as they have lost 2-3 matches each consecutively and need to find a rhythm going. Mumbai have won 3 games out of 6 while Kolkata have won just 2 out of 6. Equation is clear that both the teams will put in more than 100% to grab this win anyhow.
News from the center is that Ponting has been dropped and Rohit Sharma will lead the side.
It is Sachin Tendulkar's b'day as well.
Kolkata Knight Riders have won the toss and elected to bat first.
Kumble has said: If they win against KKR today, that will be the best b'day gift for Sachin Tendulkar.
Batting first KKR started quite madly and scored 26 runs in the first over which was bowled by Harbajan Singh. Then the wicket of Yusuf Pathan fell and shortly Gautam Gambhir was dismissed as well. Runs became hard to come in spite of Kallis who kept rotating the strike continuously. Eoin Morgan contributed again with the bat and finally Kolkata could score only 159 runs. Though the wicket was considered a bit on the slow side and so chasing was considered difficult here but Mumbai finally own the game in the last over.
Tendulkar failed to contribute and scored just 2 runs before getting completely bowled by Sunil Narine.
Smith scored a brilliant quick 62 runs hitting 5 sixes which proved fruitful in the end. Rohit Sharma was brilliant as well and little cameo from Pollard hence helped them in snatching the win from Kolkata.
Smith was awarded the Man of the Match award for his brilliant fifty and pick of the bowler for the match was Sunil Narine who picked up 3 important wickets but other bowlers could not contribute much. Senayanke, the Sri Lankan mystery spinner went for 50 runs in his 4 overs on a pitch which was considered spinner friendly.
So finally things are not working out for KKR and Gautam Gambhir and they have lost 5 matches out of 7. Still more than half of the tournament is left for them and they are a strong side which can bounce back any moment, but they really need to focus on their game.
One or two players firing doesn't help much. What they need is contribution from everybody.
