Awards

Graeme Swann, a right arm off spinner who represents English team born in 1979. He is also capable of perform with the bat. Swann played domestic cricket for Northamptonshire but switched over to Nottinghamshire in 2005. He is a key member of English team’s spin bowling attack and has the ability to threaten the opposition batsmen with his bowling. In 2011, he also reached at number 1 position in ODI bowling ranking list. Swann made his first class debut in 1998 when he played for Northamptonshire. His maiden first class century came in the same year when he played against Leicestershire and scored 111. His first class top score is of 183 that he scored in 2002. In 2005, Swann moved to Nottinghamshire. In 2007 season he performed well 45 dismissals and 500 runs and his this performance led him to be included in England’s squad against Sri Lanka. Swann made his Test debut in 2008 against India and became the 2nd player in cricket history to take 2 wickets in first Test over after Richard Johnson when he sent Gautam Gambhir and Rahul Dravid back to the pavilion. His first 5 wicket haul came in 2009 when he played against West Indies. He took 5 wickets after conceding 57 runs including 2 dismissals in 2 consecutive deliveries. Swann has played 52 Test matches and has taken nearly 222 wickets with a bowling average of 28. He holds a record of having 5 wicket haul 15 times and 10 wicket haul thrice in his career so far. He has also given his contribution with the bat and has scored nearly 1200 runs with an average of 23 which also include 5 fifties. The right handed bowler played his first ODI in 2000 against South Africa but after the series he couldn’t get success in making securing position in England’s squad for 7 years. In 2007, he then included in his side squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. He has given his contribution in 80 ODI games and has taken 104 wickets with an average of 28. He has taken 5 wickets in an innings only once against Australia in 2009 played crucial role for his side to won the match. He has also added 500 runs with the bat at an average of 14. Swann was a member of England’s 15 member squad for ICC World T20 tournament in 2010. He played well throughout the tournament and finished the tournament with 10 wickets at an average of 14. He performed best with ball against South Africa with the figures of 3 for 24. In the same year, he was also announced ECB Cricketer of the year. Swann was also included in England’s 15 member squad for 2011 World Cup and managed to take 12 wickets in 7 matches as England couldn’t make it to the final and were knocked out in the quarter-finals only. Swann also got a chance to led his side in 2011 when West Indies came England for two T20s. When it comes to his personal life, Swann is a keen interested person in Football and music as well. Swann is a father of 2 children and is a husband of Sarah with whom he married in 2010. Swann also played Ashes in 2011 and played vital role in his side’s series victory. He took 15 wickets with an average of 40.
