MI New York is one of the T20 teams that will take part in the inaugural season of the Major League Cricket 2023. The Mumbai Indians New York, representing New York City in New York state, was introduced in 2023 by American Cricket Enterprises as a participating member of the MLC 2023 that will run from the 13th to the 30th of July.
Indiawin Sports, the owner of the Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, and MI Emirates, bought the stake in the MLC 2023 and introduced MI New York. The Indiawin Sports is one of the four IPL franchises that have invested in the upcoming MLC 2023 and entered their squad.
The team has devised a strategic plan to construct their home venue within the Marine Park, projecting an anticipated seating capacity of 10,000. However, until the completion of this venue, the team will conduct all their matches in the Grand Prairie stadium located in Texas.
The inaugural MLC draft took place on March 19, 2023, within the premises of NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston. American hitter Steven Taylor was chosen by MI New York as their first pick in this selection round. MI New York has made an announcement regarding the incorporation of nine international players, effectively finalizing a roster comprising 18 cricketers on 14 June 2023. The team will enter the MLC 2023 tournament under the leadership of the former West Indies cricketer, Kieron Pollard. Robin Peterson, the former South African cricketer, has been appointed as the head coach for MI New York. Lasith Malinga, a former seamer for Mumbai Indians, will fulfill the role of the bowling coach. The coaching staff will also comprise J Arunkumar, who will serve as the batting coach whereas James Pamment will take charge as the fielding coach.
The MI Newyork roaster boasts the presence of Rashid Khan, Afghanistan's T20 captain, and Nicholas Pooran, the former captain of West Indies, alongside the inclusion of Trent Boult, a fast bowler from New Zealand, and the Australian duo of power-hitter Tim David and pacer Jason Behrendorff. Furthermore, the team will showcase the emerging South African talent Dewald Brevis, as well as the pace sensation Kagiso Rabada. With the combination of Trent Boult, Kagiso Rabada, and Rashid Khan, the team has got a strong bowling attack.
The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd T20 matches of the MI New York in MLC 2023 will be held at Grand Prairie Stadium, Texas against San Francisco Unicorns, Los Angeles Knight Riders, and Texas Super Kings on 14, 16, and 17 July 2023. Then the team will head over to Church Street Park, Morrisville for playing their 4th and 5th T20 against Washington Freedom and Seattle Orcas on 23 and 25 July.
