On 21st March 2010, the 16th IPL match was played between Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. Chennai Super Kings won the toss and decided to field first. Kings XI Punjab made 136 runs in the first innings and set the target of 137 for Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings could not achieve the target of 137 runs and the match was ended with no result. The match was tied and entered into the Super over. This is going to be the second super over in the Indian Premier League.

In Super over, Albie Morkel and Matthew Hayden came on to the ground to bat. Rusty Theron was given the responsibility of bowl from King XI Punjab. On the first ball of Rusty Theron, Albie Morkel took the single. But Rusty Theron bowled really well and took the wicket of Matthew Hayden on the next ball. Matthew Hayden tried to hit the ball over the mid-wicket field but missed it and bowled. Now, Suresh Raina came to bat after the dismissal of Mathew Hayden. On the 3rd ball, Suresh Raina took a couple of runs. Now, Chennai Super Kings was at a score of 3 runs from 3 balls. Then Suresh Raina hit a six over the mid-wicket field on the over pitch ball of Rusty Theron. But he also lost his wicket on the fifth ball. He tried to hit over the long-on field but the ball took the edge of the bat and he was caught at the extra cover by Mahela Jayawardene. Chennai Super Kings ended at only 9 runs with one ball left.

Now, Kings XI Punjab needed 10 runs from 6 balls to win the match. Mahela Jayawardene and Yuvraj Singh came onto the ground from King XI Punjab. Chennai Super King gave the bowling responsibility to Muttiah Muralitharan. On the first ball of Muttiah Muralitharan, Mahela Jayawardene hit an excellent six over the field of long-on. But on the second ball, Muralitharan took the wicket of Mahela Jayawardene; it was an awesome comeback for Muralitharan.  

Yuvraj Singh tried a slop sweep on the third ball but he missed the ball. On the next ball, Yuvraj Singh successfully hit a reverse sweep and got a boundary. In this way, Kings XI Punjab beat Chennai Super Kings in the super over with 2 balls left. Rusty Theron was given Man of the Match for his excellent performance. He was very economical in the second innings and gave only 17 runs off his 4 over with 2 wickets. He also took both the wickets in the super over and stopped the Chennai super Kings at only 9 runs.
