Wayne Dillon Parnell is a regular member of the South African cricket team. He was born on July 30, 1989 in Port Elizabeth at Cape Province. He is a left-handed batsman and left-arm medium pacer. He plays for the national team in all the three formats of the game. He is also known as Pigeon or Parny among his teammates. At the Indian Premium League, he has made a mark with his performances for teams like Delhi Daredevils and Pune Warriors.

He started his career at the age of 12 with the Under-13 team of Eastern Province. He has also played for South Africa Under-19, Kent, Sussex and presently plays for Warriors. He belongs to the ethnic group of Cape Coloured. He is a gifted all-rounder on and off the field. Apart from playing cricket, he was a student of Human Resource Management at the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Career Highlights
On October 26, 2006, he made his first class debut at the Eastern Province versus South Western Districts match. After a few months later in 2007, he got the chance to play in his first List A match. Since, then he has improved with time and made a name in the world of international cricket.

  • He was selected as the skipper of the South African Under-19 World cup team for 2008 and he finished as the highest wicket taker of the tournament.
  • He became the youngest player to be given the national contract by CSA or Cricket South Africa.
  • He won the golden ball at the ICC Champions Trophy 2009 for taking the highest number of wickets.
