8th match in IPL 2008 was played in between Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. It was played on 23 April as a day / night match. The match was played on MA Chidambaram Stadium which is at Chepauk in Chennai. Toss was won by Mumbai Indians team and they chose to field in first innings. CSK team batting line was opened by Parthiv Patel and Matthew Hayden. The start was strong with Patel delivering 3 fours in first 14 minutes. He faced 11 balls until being dismissed by a catch by Luke Ronchi on the balling by Ashish Nehra. Matthew Hayden handled the innings and delivered 81 runs in next 46 balls. He hit 12 fours and 2 sixes and stayed on the pitch for 102 minutes and put on a smashing strike rate of 176.08 until he was run out by Harbhajan Singh. The next best performance was given by Suresh Raina with 53 runs from 37 balls. Under captaincy of MS Dhoni, CSK created a huge 208 runs at 10.4 runs per over. Vikrant Yeligati bowled 1 over but gave away 16 runs.

Luke Ronchi and Sanath Jayasuriya opened up the batting for Mumbai Indians. It seemed to be a strong opposition and a good chase, but this did not happen in reality. Ronchi got run out and then followed by Jayasuriya. Robin Uthappa came next and took the team to a better position. He put in 43 runs in 36 balls with 6 fours and 1 six before being bold out by Joginder Sharma. Ultimately one by one, the team members could not keep up with bowling attack by Chennai Super Kings. The last MI players tried best to chase winning score of 209 runs. Mumbai Indians lost the match by 6 runs after playing 20 complete overs.

It was a super entertaining and Man of the Match was given to Matthew Hayden.
