Barbados wins their first match thanks to Malik and Pollard - The Caribbean Premiere League started off with the first match being played by Barbados Tridents and St Lucia Zouks. After winning the toss the Home team decided to bat first. While batting first the team didn’t get a good start. The very first ball of the league saw Albie Morkel take the important wicket of Dwayne Smith. In the 5th over of the game the Tridents faced yet another loss of wicket in the form of Jonathan Carter. Shakib Al Hasan too failed to make an impression in the first match and scored only 5 runs before giving his wicket away to Darren Sammy. The visitors were on top of the game by taking 4 wickets in first 8 overs. It was the captain Kieron Pollard and Pakistan international batsman Shoaib Malik who managed to control the innings. Both batsmen fought hard with the conditions and took their team to a total of 169. Malik scored 78 runs of 51 balls while Pollard scored 61 off just 46 balls. Darren Sammy took 2 wickets for his team.

While chasing the team from St. Lucia manage to get a great start. The first wicket fell in the start of 6th over at a score of 57. It was Tamim Iqbal who after scoring 22 runs was stumped by Ashley Nurse. Andre Fletcher was the top scorer for the team as he scored 57 runs in 41 balls and lost his wicket to Nurse. Darren Sammy in this chase scored 34 runs in just 16 balls. He was the only middle order batsman who managed to score runs, as all the other players never managed to reach double figures. The team managed to score only 152 runs before getting all-out. Ashley Nurse was the pick of the bowlers taking 2 wickets giving away only 18 runs. The home team won the game by 17 runs and Shoaib Malik won the player of the match award.
