Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers guide South Africa to their first victory - The South Africans started their tour of Sri Lanka by playing the ODI series. The first match of the ODI series was played at the Premadasa stadium situated in the city of Colombo. The game saw the visitors win the toss and bat first. While batting the openers Quinton de Kock and Hashim Amla gave the team a solid start. They both had a 50 run partnership before de Kock lost the wicket in the 13th over of the game. Jacques Kallis was bowled cheaply as he scored duck. It was AB de Villiers who together with Amla took his team to a grand score of 304. The opener Hashim Amla managed to score a century. He scored 109 runs in just 130 balls while de Villiers managed to score 75 runs off just 70 balls. Ajantha Mendis was the best bowler for the home team as he managed to take 3 wickets giving away 61 runs.

While chasing the target of 304 runs in 50 overs the home side got a good start from both the openers. Kusal Perera and Tillakaratne Dilshan had a 50 run partnership before Perera after scoring 34 runs lost his wicket. Later Kumar Sangakkara joined in with Dilshan to take the team to stronger place. Dilshan fell at a score of 40 and left the team at 98/2 in 17th over. Sangakkara managed to score 88 runs from 84 balls but it was not enough as the middle order collapsed cheaply. The home team managed to score only 229 runs. South Africa won the match by 75 runs in which the leggie Imran Tahir took the maximum wickets for his team. Hashim Amla was named as man of the match for his century run stand and South Africa now leads this 3 match series by 1-0.
