Pakistan vs Zimbabwe ODI Series 2020


In November 2020 Zimbabwe Cricket team was on tour to Pakistan where it played a 3-match ODI series. Team Pakistan was captained by Babar Azam while Zimbabwe was led by Chamu Chibhabha.

The first ODI match of 3 match series was played on October, 30 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first. The openers Imam-ul-Haq and Abid Ali opened the inning well. In the 11th over Pakistan lost its first wicket in the form of Abid Ali who could make 21 runs only. Babar Azam joined Imam-ul-Haq, and they played well but in the 18th over Azam also got out. Harris Sohai came to bat and meanwhile, ul-Haq completed his half-century. Later no batsmen could do well except Imad Wasim who made 34 runs. At the end of 50 overs, Pakistan could make 281 at a loss of 8 wickets. From Zimbabwe Ngarava and Mumba got highest 3 wickets each.

Team Zimbabwe came to bat to chase the score. Brian Cheri and Chamu Chibhabha opened the inning. In the first over, only Cheri got out, and the fall of wicket gradually started. Except for Wicket Keeper Brendan Taylor, no one could sustain on the pitch. Taylor made 112 runs in 117 balls. In 49.4 overs Zimbabwe could make 255 at a loss of 10 wickets. Hence Pakistan won the match by 26 runs. From Pakistan, Shahin Afridi got the highest 5 wickets. Brendan Taylor was declared as the player of the match for his century.

The second ODI between these two teams was played on the same ground on November 1. The guest team won the toss and chose to bat first. It was not a good start for the team as they lost the first wicket in the 6th over only. From Zimbabwe, Sean Williams made 75 runs, and Brendan Taylor made 36 runs. In 45. 1 over team Zimbabwe got all out at a score of 206 runs giving the target of 207 runs to the host team. From Pakistan, the most successful bowler was Iftikhar Ahmed who got 5 wickets. Chasing the score Abid Ali and Imam-ul –Haq started the inning from Pakistan. From Pakistan, Imam-ul-Haq made 49 runs, and Babar Azam made not out 77 runs. Hence Pakistan won the match by 6 wickets in 35.2 overs only. Iftikhar Ahmed was declared as the player of the match for his excellent bowling taking 5 wickets.

The 3rd ODI between Zimbabwe and Pakistan was played on November 3 at the same venue. Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat first. Sean Williams scored not out 118 runs while Brendan Taylor made 56 runs. Raza also made 45 runs. Hence at the end of 50 overs, Zimbabwe could make 278 runs at a loss of wickets setting the target of 279 for the host team. From Pakistan, Mohammad Hasnain got 5 wickets.

From Pakistan, Babar Azam made 125 runs and Wahab Riaz also made 52 runs. Pakistan also made 278 runs in their 50 overs losing 9 wickets and hence the match was tied. There was a super over played where Pakistan made 2 runs in 4 balls losing one wicket while Zimbabwe made 5 runs in 3 balls without any wicket. Hence Zimbabwe won the third match. Blessing Muzarabani from Zimbabwe was the player of the match for his bowling performance of 5 wickets.

Pakistan won the ODI series by 2-1, and Babr Azam was declared as the player of the series.
