Two times IPL champion Chennai Super Kings defeated the defending champion team Mumbai Indians by 7 wickets and 6 balls to spare on the game 13 of IPL 2014 played at Dubai International Stadium.

Earlier MI captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. MI lost their opener Mike Hussey (1 run, 7 balls) in the 2nd over. The other opener Aditya Tare started well by hitting 4 boundaries, but he too got out on 23. After that the captain Rohit Sharma (50 runs, 41 balls) and Corey Anderson (39 runs, 31 balls) made a partnership of 84 runs. But the lower middle order batsmen of MI team failed to perform well due to fantastic bowling by Mohit Sharma (4-0-14-4). Finally Mumbai Indians managed to score only 141/7 after their 20 overs.

As mentioned Mohit Sharma took 4 wickets and Ben Hilfenhaus snatched the other two wickets of MI’s innings. It was a smart bowling performance by the entire Chennai team and almost all the bowlers’ player their part beautifully.

While chasing such a not-so-big target the CSK opening duo Dwayne Smith (239 runs, 22 balls) and Brendon McCullum (71 runs, 53 balls) produced a fantastic start. They scored a 57-run partnership in just 6.2 overs. Chennai’s most dependent batsman Suresh Raina failed to make an impact as he managed to score only 1 runs before getting out on Harbhajan Singh’s bowling. Even Faf du Plessis (20 runs, 25 balls) failed to end the game. But the CSK captain MS Dhoni and McCullum kept their cool and ended the match with comfort.

Pragyan Ojha took the wicket of Smith and Harbhajan Singh provided the other two wickets to his team captain. Finally the CSK team put up 142/3 after 19 overs to seal the match.

Mohit Sharma was chosen as the Man of the Match for his outstanding bowling display at the death overs which eventually restricted MI from putting up a real big score.
