India vs West Indies ODI Series 2014 Schedule


The West Indies tour of India was looked on as a big challenge for the World Cup winners team India. The young West Indian team is considered as the biggest challengers in the current world of cricket.t the team had a good component of all-rounders and it was a test for the Indian super stars to maintain their reputation in front of their home crowd. The tour included an ODI series which had 5 scheduled ODI matches to be played between them.

The 1st ODI
was played at the famous stadium of Kochi. In this match the home team decided to field first after winning the toss. The visitors got off to a steady start reaching a score of 98 runs in 18 overs losing 2 wickets in the process. The 3rd wicket also fell early at a score of 120 runs and thus the home side was on top of their game when a Marlon Samuels and Denesh Ramdin came into bat for the visitors. these two batsmen took the game out of the hand of Indians as they scored 126 and 61 runs respectively taking the score to 321 in 50 overs. Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets in this match. Indians while chasing got off to a good start but then later started losing many wickets quite cheaply. The middle order failed to perform and thus the Indians were bowled out for 197 runs. thus the 1st match of the Micromax Cup was won West Indies.

The 2nd ODI was played in the Capital city Delhi. This time around after winning the toss the Indians decided to bat first. quite contradictory to the previous match the openers failed to provide a good start while the Middle order clicked for the Indians. Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina scored 62 runs each while Mahendra Singh Dhoni scored 51 unbeaten runs and took the score to 263 runs in 50 overs. Jerome Taylor took 3 wickets in the match. while chasing the visiting team cruised all the way. Dwayne Smith scored 97 runs while Kieron Pollard scored 40 runs in the match. A victory was evident for the visitors when the spinners played their role and from 183/3 they reduced the team to a mere 215 runs. Mohammed Shami took 4 wickets while Ravindra Jadeja took 3 wickets thus levelling the series for India.

The 3rd ODI
was called off due to bad weather conditions and thus the 4th ODI was played in Dharamsala. In this match India were put into bat by the West Indies and the Indians made full use of the opportunity as they posted a score of 330 runs. Virat Kohli was the top scorer as he scored 127 runs while he was accompanied by Ajinkya Rahane scoring 68 runs and Suresh Raina who scored 71 runs. While chasing the target West Indies too made sure that they do not lose the hopes easily and went as close as 271 runs. Marlon Samuels was the man once again as he scored 112 runs. the West Indies team failed once again in chasing and thus India lead the series 2-1.

The 5th ODI that was scheduled to be played in Kolkata was called off as the West Indies team decided to back out from the tour. This decision meant that the Micromax cup was won by Team India as they led the series 2-1.
