India emerge winners in the most awaited world cup tie - India and Pakistan finally met in the most anticipated match of the World Cup 2015. It was a match which has been the highlight of any world cup edition. In the past 5 meetings at the world cup stage Pakistan has always failed to prove their mettle in the match. It was the 1st match for both the teams in this tournament and after winning the toss Indians decided to bat first.

Batting first Rohit Sharma failed to score for the team but Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli came together to build the innings for the team. They together took the team to a score of 163 for the loss of 1 wicket. Dhawan after scoring 73 runs lost his wicket as he was run out due to a misunderstanding between the batsmen. Suresh Raina later joined Kohli and they together started to raise the momentum for the team. Kohli scored 107 runs and lost his wicket in the 46th over leaving his team to a score of 273 runs. Raina played a huge hand as he scored 74 runs in 56 balls to take the team score to 300 runs. Sohail Khan took 5 wickets in the match to be the best bowler from the Pakistan side.

The score of 300 was an achievable target but the Indian bowlers in the start made sure that the opponents had no chance as Younis Khan lost his wicket after scoring only 6 runs. Ahmed Shehzad and Haris Sohail together put up a good partnership. Ravichandran Ashwin came up to break the partnership taking the wicket of Sohail who scored 36 runs. Soon Pakistan lost its way as Ahmed Shehzad couldn’t take in the pressure and threw his wicket after scoring 47 runs. This fall of wicket saw more quick wickets and hence the Pakistan team was able to score only 224 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq was the top scorer for the team as he managed to score 76 runs. Mohammed Shami was the top bowler for India as he took 4 wickets in the game. Virat Kohli was named as the man of the match as India started their campaign with a win over the arch rivals Pakistan.
