The 27th T20 match of KFC Big Bash League was fought between Melbourne Stars and Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena Stadium on 4 Jan 2021. Hobart Hurricanes won the toss and invited the Melbourne stars to bat first. Ben Dunk & Lance Morris were the X-factor substitutes for Melbourne and Mac Wright & Nick Winter for Hobart. Andre Fletcher and Marcus Stoinis were sent to open. Riley Meredith got the new ball in hand to attack.

It was not a great start for Melbourne and Andre Fletcher had to go back in the first over. Then Nick Larkin came to join Stoinis but could not stay for longer on the crease and had gone at the score of 39 runs. Glens Maxwell also could not do much and Melbourne had lost 3 wickets very quickly at the score of just 49 runs. Stoinis with Pooran handle the pressure and made a crucial partnership of 60 runs. Stoinis showed an amazing performance and made unbeaten 97 runs from 55 balls with seven 4s and 6s. Ultimately, Melbourne successfully made 183 runs and placed a target of 184 runs for Hobart.

Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short came to open for Hobart. Sam Rainbird got the new ball to stop Melbourne’s openers. Hobart Hurricanes lost their first wicket of Short in the 5th over at the score of 23 runs. McDermott performed superbly with the bat and made 91 runs from 58 balls with eight 4s & five 6s. A great inning of McDermott came to an end at the 19th over and Hobart also lost the match by 10 runs.

Thus, Melbourne registered a win over Hobart by 10 runs and Marcus Stoinis was declared as the Man of the Match for his match-winning knock of 97 runs.
