The 34th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was fought between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Thunder at Perth Stadium on 9 Jan 2021. Sydney Thunder won the toss and went for the field first. Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone were sent to open. Nathan McAndrew got the new ball in hand to open the attack.

The starting was not good for Perth and they lost both openers in the 3rd over at the score of 18 runs only. After the dismissal, Colin Munro and Josh Inglis came to handle the situation. Munro played really well under the pressure and made 50 runs from 41 balls. Josh Inglis supported well and made 20 runs but he had to go at the score of 61 runs. Then Mitchell Marsh came to join Munro but could not stay longer. The captain at the number 6 position played an excellent and quick inning of 31 runs from just 13 balls. At the end of the 20 overs, the Scorchers had successfully made 185 runs at the loss of 6 wickets. Sydney needed 186 runs to win the 34th BBL match. Brendan Doggett was the most successful bowler for the Thunder and he took 4 wickets in the match.

Usman Khawaja and Alex Hales were sent to chase the target and the new ball was given to Jhye Richardson. Usman Khawaja was looking good at the starting but was dismissed by Richardson at 3rd over. After the dismissal, Callum Ferguson came to join Hales but he was also sent back by Behrendroff in the next over. Sydney came under pressure and could not get out of it. No player of Sydney performed well except Sam Billings and the team was bowled out at the score of 168 runs.

Sam Billings made crucial 83 runs but no player could support him. Perth Scorchers registered a victory over the Thunder by 17 runs. Jhye Richardson was awarded the Man of the Match title for his brilliant performance.
