The 28th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League 2020-21 was fought between Sydney Thunder and Brisbane Heat at The Gabba Stadium on 4 Jan 2021. Sydney Thunder won the toss and went to bat first. SD Heazlett & CA Lynn were selected as the Super Subs players for Brisbane Heat, and AI Ross & CP Tremain were the Super Subs for Sydney. Usman Khawaja & Alex Hales came to open. Xavier Bartlett got the new ball in hand.

Bartlett gave a brilliant start to his team and sent back Khawaja for a duck. Callum Ferguson came on the crease to join Hales after the dismissal of Khawaja. Both the batsmen showed their form and built up a much-needed partnership of 77 runs. Hales was dismissed by Mujeeb in the 9th over and he made 46 runs from 26 balls. Ferguson also lost his wickets in the 12th over and made 35 runs for his team. Daniel Sams at number 6 contributed important 37 runs from just 18 balls. Finally, Sydney set a challenging target of 175 runs to Brisbane Heat.

Max Bryant and Chris Lynn were sent to chase the target of 175 runs from 120 balls. Nathan McAndrew got the new ball to open the attack. The first wicket of Brisbane was fallen at the score of 37 runs in the 4th over. Max Bryant was dismissed by Chris Green. Joe Denly then came to join Lynn but Lynn was also sent back and he made 30 runs from 16 balls.

After the dismissal of Lynn, the partnership of 90 runs between Denly and Burns made the target easy for Brisbane. Brisbane Heat comfortably achieved the target in 19.1 overs at the loss of 5 wickets. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the Man of the Match for his excellent bowling performance. He took 2 wickets in his 4 overs and gave only 26 runs.
