The 23rd T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League 2020-21 was played between Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars at Blundstone Arena on 2 January 2021. Melbourne Stars won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Ben McDermott and D’Arcy Short were sent to open. Sam Rainbird got the new ball to attack.

Hobart lost the first wicket early at the score of 15 runs only. D’Arcy short was bowled out by Glen Maxwell. David Malan then joined McDermott and both the batsmen handled the situation very nicely. David and McDermott had made a crucial partnership of 82 runs. But Stanlake bowled really well in the 14th over and dismissed two batsmen of HOH from his two deliveries. David Malan, McDermott, and Ingram played nicely, and finally, added a total of 164 runs on the scoreboard. Malan was the top scorer with his 75 runs from 56 balls. Billy Stanlake bowled great and took 3 wickets in the match. The Stars got the target of 165 runs from 120 balls.

Andre Fletcher and Marcus Stoinis were sent to chase the target. Riley Meredith got the new ball to open the attack. Both the openers of Melbourne were sent back at the score of 17 runs. Hobart did not allow any batsman of Melbourne to settle down except Glenn Maxwell. Maxwell was the only batsman who crossed 15 runs in the inning. He made 70 runs from just 37 balls with six 4s and five 6s. After the dismissal of Maxwell, no batsmen could stay for long, and thus, the STA had lost the match.

Hobart Hurricanes won the 23rd match of BBL 2020-21 by 21 runs. Mark Steketee was the Player of the Match for his superb bowling.
