The 39th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was fought between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Renegades at Manuka Oval, Canberra on 14 Jan 2021. Brisbane won the toss and invited Melbourne to bat first. Mackenzie Harvey and Shaun Marsh were sent to open the bat for the Renegades. Xavier Bartlett got the new ball in hand to open the attack.
Melbourne lost the first wicket of Shaun Marsh at the score of just 1 run in the first over. That was a big loss for the team and then Sam Harper came to join Harvey. After the first mandatory Powerplay, Melbourne had made 32 runs at the loss of 1 wicket. Melbourne completed 50 runs in the 7.3 overs at the loss of 3 wickets. Jake Fraser-McGurk and Beau Webster played some nice shots and controlled the situation. Webster completed his fifty from 40 balls and thus Melbourne successfully added a total of 149 runs to the scoreboard.
Brisbane Heat needed 150 runs from 120 balls to win the match. Max Bryant and Chris Lynn were on the crease to chase the target. Imad Wasim got the new ball in hand to open the attack. Brisbane made 25 runs at the end of the first Powerplay without any loss. They lost the first wicket of Bryant at the score of 46 runs and completed the 50 runs at 7.4 overs. After the first dismissal, Joe Denly came to join Chris Lynn and both batsmen built a partnership of 59 runs. Lynn completed his fifty from 40 balls and the rest of the work was completed by Joe Burns. Joe made unbeaten 31 runs from 15 balls and Brisbane easily got the target in 18.4 overs.
Brisbane Heat won the match by 5 wickets with 8 balls left and Joe Burns was chosen Man of the Match.
