The 32nd T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was played between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars at Metricon Stadium on 7 January 2021. Melbourne Stars won the toss and asked the opposition to bat first. The match was delayed by rain and it was shortened to 17 overs. Max Bryant and Chris Lynn were sent to the crease. Sam Rainbird got the new ball in hand.
Brisbane Heat started well and made 47 runs at the end of the first Powerplay and that was the best Powerplay for the Heat till now. Adam Zampa brought into the attack after the Powerplay and dismissed Bryant & Denly in the 7th over of the match. The match was stopped in the 7th over again due to rain. Brisbane had made 72 runs at 2 wickets when the play was stopped. Due to rain, the match was reduced to 10 overs and Brisbane had added 115 runs to the scoreboard in 10 overs.
According to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method, the Stars needed 129 runs within 10 overs. Andre Fletcher and Marcus Stoinis were sent to chase the target and Xavier Bartlett got the new ball to attack. After the first mandatory Powerplay, Melbourne Stars had made 26 runs at no loss. Fletcher was sent back by Mujeeb Ur Rahman in the 5th over of the match. Some early wickets within 2 overs after the Powerplay brought Melbourne under pressure.
Nick Larkin at number 6 played some great shots but did not help enough the Stars to bring back into the game. Melbourne Stars lost the match by 18 runs. Mark Steketee again performed well with the ball and took 3 wickets in the match for Brisbane Heat.
Brisbane Heat won the match by 18 runs and Chris Lynn was the Man of the Match for his excellent 48 runs from 23 balls.
