The 24th T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League 2020-21 was played between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers at The Gabba in Brisbane on 2 January 2021. The Sydney Sixers won the toss and they invited the Heat to bat first. Lachlan Pfeffer & Sam Heazlett were the x-factor substitute players for Brisbane and Jake Ball & Justin Avendano were selected as the x-factor substitutes for Sydney. Josh Philippe and Jack Edwards walked on the crease to open for the HEA. Xavier Bartlett got the new ball to attack.

The Sixers started the innings slowly but did not lose any wicket and added 30 runs till the end of the first powerplay. After the powerplay, Jack Edwards was sent back by Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Then Philippe and James Vince took responsibility and added 49 runs to the total. Sydney lost Vince in the 9th over and once again came under pressure. After the dismissal of Philippe, Jordan Silk played some excellent shots and made crucial 43 runs off 27 balls. At the end of 20 overs, Sydney added 165 runs to the scoreboard and thus got a defending total. Brisbane got the target of 166 runs from 120 balls. Mark Steketee was the most successful bowler for Brisbane and he took 4 wickets in the match.

Max Bryant and Joe Burns were sent to chase the target. Jackson Bird got the responsibility of the new ball. That was also not a good start for Brisbane as they lost a wicket and made only 27 runs at the end of the first powerplay. Max Bryant was also sent back by Christian in the 7th over. Both the openers had returned back and Heat came under pressure. But an excellent batting effort from Gregory and Wildermuth made it easy and comfortably achieved the target.

Brisbane won the match by 4 wickets with 7 balls left. Mark Steketee was declared as the Man of the Match for his brilliant bowling performance.
