The 52nd T20 match of the KFC Big Bash League was fought between Sydney Sixers and Hobart Hurricanes at Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne on 24 Jan 2021. The Sixers won the toss and invited the opposition to bat first. Matthew Wade and D’Arcy Short were sent to open for Hobart. Sean Abbot got the new ball in hand.

Both the openers Struck great shots at the beginning and gave an excellent start. Hobart had made 33 runs without any loss at the end of the first mandatory Powerplay. They have reached 100 runs opening partnership in just 10.3 overs. Matthew Wade completed its fifty in just 28 balls and Short also got his fifty at 36 balls. Sidney Sixers wanted to break the partnership and then Sean Abbot was brought to bowl the 15th over. Abbot tried well and took the wicket of Wade in the 15th over. Both played superbly and had built a partnership of 145 runs. The next batsman Ben McDermott came to join D’Arcy Short but could not stay longer and was sent back by Christian. D’Arcy Short was also sent back by Abbot in the 18th over. He made 72 runs from 52 balls and helped the Hurricanes to put a total of 188 runs on the scoreboard. Matthew Wade was the top scorer with his match-winning inning of 86 runs from 44 balls. Hobart gave a challenging target of 189 runs to Sydney.

Josh Philippe and James Vince were sent to chase the target. Nick Winter got the new ball to open the attack. Sydney needed a good start but both openers were sent back early at the score of 21 and 31 runs. Daniel Huges at the number 3 position could not stay longer and Sydney lost its 3rd wicket at 37 runs only. Sydney came under pressure because of excellent bowling performance by bowlers. Then Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk were on the crease to handle the pressure and cover up the damage. Both the batsmen played well and tried to save the match but they could not achieve it and lost the match by 7 runs. Henriques made 43 runs and Jordan played a nice inning of 78 runs.

Hobart Hurricanes won the 52nd BBL match of the 2020-21 season. Matthew Wade was awarded the Man of the Match title.
