In IPL 2020 the 17th match was played between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad on 4th October. Both teams have won IPL titles before and hence it was expected to be a grand match. The match was played at Sharjah Cricket Stadium, Sharjah.

Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma had won the toss and opted to bat first. The innings of MI was opened by Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock. However, the opening pair got failed to offer a desired start to the team as Sharma got out early at the score of 6 runs only. In the first over only the team had lost its first wicket. However, in this match, Quinton de Kock proved his mettle and hit some quality shots. He played well with Suryakumar Yadav and balanced the innings. After the loss of wicket of Suryakumar, he also played well with Ishan Kishan. He made 67 runs in 39 balls only. From MI other players such as Ishan Kishan, Hardik Pandya, Keiron Pollard and Krunal Pandya also played well. As a result of team efforts, MI made a good score of 208 at the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs. Hence SRH was given the target of 209 runs to win the match. From SRH Sandeep Sharma and Siddharth Kaul were the most successful bowlers with 2 wickets each.

To chase the score of 208 the openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow started the innings of Sunrisers Hyderabad. They started well and provided a good beginning. In the 5th over SRH lost its first wicket in the form of Bairstow who got out at an individual score of 25 runs. Manish Pandey joined Warner to carry forward the inning, and they both added some more runs before the loss of Pandey's wicket. Soon the middle order of SRH collapsed against the quality bowling attack from MI bowlers. At the end of 20 overs team SRH could make up to 174 runs only. David Warner played a marvellous captain inning of 60 runs in 44 balls only, but no other batsmen from SRH could play steadily and make a good score. MI won the match by 34 runs. From MI Jasprit Bumrah,  James Pattinson and Trent Boult were successful bowlers who got 2 wickets each. Trent Boult was declared as the Player of the match for his quality bowling performance of 2 wickets in 4 overs giving 28 runs only.
