The third match of IPL 2020 was held between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Royal Challengers Bangalore on 21 September 2020 at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai. The toss was won by the SRH captain David Warner who elected to choose field.

Inning of Royal Challengers Bangalore was opened by D Padikkal and A Finch. Both openers gave an excellent start to the team, and Padikkal made his half-century. He made 56 runs in 42 balls before getting out by V Shankar. Immediately, after the loss of the first wicket, RCB lost the second wicket in the form of Finch who got out by A Sharma at an individual score of 29 runs. RCB captain V Kohli also got out early at the score of 123. After the wicket of Kohli, AB de Villiers tried to have a good partnership with S Dube. AB de Villiers made 51 precious runs in 30 balls. RCB made 163 runs with a loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs and set a target of 164 runs for the SRH. Warner had used 7 bowlers to control the score of RCB.

Captain David Warned and J Bairstow opened the inning for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Both openers were playing well, but unfortunately, Warner got run out in the second over only. However, M Pandey and J Bairstow played well and kept the scoreboard moving. Bairstow played exceptionally well, and at one moment it was looking like the victory for SRH is only a formality now. However, the RCB team made quick back to the game and bowlers, and fielders showed grand performance.

M Pandey made 32 runs in 33 balls, and Bairstow made 61 runs from 43 balls. However, after the fall of these two wickets, no other batsman from SRH could do well, and hence the inning of SRH finished at the score of 153 in 19.4 overs. RCB bowlers did exceptionally well in the last few overs and changed the game to their side. Y Chahal was the hero of this match who got 3 wickets in his spell of 4 overs. Shivam Dube and Navdeep Saini also got 2-2 wickets.

With this victory, RCB has started its journey in IPL 2020 with a big bang. The award of Man of the Match was given to Y Chahal for his impressive bowling figures. With this win captain Kohli was looking very happy with the performance of the team while SRH is looking for some improvements in all sections of the game.
