It was the 24th league match of IPL 2020 played between Kings XI Punjab and Kolkata Knight Riders at Sheikh Zayed Stadium on 10th October. KKR captain Dinesh Karthik won the toss and chose to bat first.

Openers Shubman Gill and Rahul Tripathi started the inning of Kolkata Knight Riders but failed to give an excellent start as Tripathi Got out early. He made 4 runs and, in the 3rd over, lost his wicket when the score of the team was 12/1. Nitish Rana came to bat but failed again and returned to the pavilion at a personal score of 2 runs only. Shubman was joined by Eoin Morgan, and they tried to rotate the strike as well as the scoreboard where Shubman Gill also completed his half-century. In the 11th over, Morgan also lost his wicket, and hence he was joined by Dinesh Karthik, captain of KKR. However, Gill lost his wicket in the 18th over, and hence his beautiful inning was ended. Regular loss of wicket proved as a big hurdle in the way of making a huge score for KKR. Karthik played a captain inning and made 58 runs in 29 balls only. From KXIP, Mohammad Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravi Bishnoi each got one wicket. KKR set a target of 165 for KXIP to win the match. 

To chase the score opening pair of Mayank Agarwal and Lokesh Rahul started the inning for Kings XI punjab. They provided an excellent start to the team as both of them made a half-century. In the 15th over, KKR got the first wicket in the form of Mayank Agarwal, and the score of KXIP was 115/1. It seemed easy to win match for KXIP, but suddenly they lost the commanding position in the match due to an excellent bowling attack from KKR bowlers. In the 18th over, Nicholas Pooran also lost his wicket. In the 19th over, Prabharan Singh and Lokesh Rahul also returned to the pavilion, and hence the score of the team was 151/4.  At the end of 20 overs, KXIP could score only 162 and lost the match by 2 runs. From KKR, Prasidh Krishna displayed excellent bowling performance and took 3 wickets in his spell of 4 overs. Sunil Narine also got two important wickets. Captain Dinesh Karthi was declared as the player of the match for his grand inning of 58 runs, which laid the foundation of a good score for KKR.
