The 41st match of IPL 2020 was played between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians. It was played on 23 October 2020 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. CSK was let by MS Dhoni, while MI was led by Kieron Pollard as Rohit Sharma was not playing in this match. MI won the toss and chose to bowl first. It was a do or die match for CSK as their performance was not at all good in the series till now.

From CSK Ruturaj Gaikwad and FAF du Plessis started the inning, but Gaikwad got out in the first over, and hence team had to face a huge jolt. Ambati Rayudu came to the ground but returned to the pavilion with an individual score of 2 runs only. In the 2nd over only, new player Narayan Jagadeesan also got out, and hence the score of the team was 3/3 in second over only. It did not end here as in the 3rd over only, du Plessis also returned to the pavilion with an individual score of 1 run. MS Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja managed the inning for a while, but shortly Jadeja also got out, and hence the score of the team was 21/5. In the 7th over Dhoni and 9th over Deepak Chahar also went back. Shardul Thakur and Sam Curran tried to play with patience but could not sustain in front of bowling attack from MI bowlers. Thakur got out in the 15th over, and hence the score was 71/8. Imran Tahir and Curran played well and managed to have a good score gradually. Imran Tahir made not out 13 runs while Curran completed his half-century before getting out at 52 runs on the last ball of the inning. At the end of 20 overs, CSK could manage 114 runs at a loss of 9 wickets and gave MI a task of 115 runs to win the match. From MI, Trent Boult got the highest 4 wickets.

The inning of MI was opened by Ishan Kishan and Quinton de Kock. They both played excellent innings with classic shot selections. Against this pair, the CSK bowling attack was utterly edgeless. Ishan Kishan made not out 68 runs while de Kock made not out 46 runs. MI made 116 runs in 12.2 overs only without losing any wicket. Hence MI won the match without any hassles. Trent Boult was declared as the player of the match for his excellent bowling performance of 4/18 in his spell of 4 overs.

For the first time, Chennai Super Kings have lost the match by 10 wickets in IPL History.
