It was the 21st match of the 2020 edition of IPL which was played at Sheikh Zayed Stadium Dubai on 7th October. The toss of the match was won by Dinesh Karthik, the captain of KKR. He elected to bat first.

The inning of Kolkata Knight Riders was started by Rahul Tripathi and Shubman Gill as an opening pair. However, this pair could not do much and in the 5th over only Gill lost his wicket and hence the score of the team was 37/1. Nitish Rana was expected to play a good inning but he failed again and got out at an individual score of 9 runs only. Sunil Narine tried to play well but lost his wicket at a personal score of 17 and even Andre Russell also got out at 2 and Eoin Morgan got out at 7. However, On one end Tripathi played some beautiful shots and kept the scoreboard moving. He made 81 valuable runs and fought well to make the team reach a good score. Dwayne Bravo was the most successful bowler from CSK. He got 3 wickets. At the end of 20 overs, KKR could make 167 runs at a loss of 10 wickets and hence CSK needed 168 to win the match.

Looking at the batting line and in form players like du Plessis and Watson the score was meager and Chennai Super Kings was expected to have an easy win. The opening pair of Shane Watson and FAF du Plessis also offered the desired start to the team. KKR got the first wicket of du Plessis in the 4th over only. However, Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson were playing well. Watson made 50 in 40 balls. Rayudu also made 30 runs in 27 balls. The match took a sharp change after the fall of the wicket of Watson in the 14th over. Players like MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav had to play with much difficulty. Balls were coming slow, and hence it was difficult to hit a big shot. KKR deployed Narine to have a spell, and he successfully controlled the batsmen. At the end of 20 overs, surprisingly, CSK could reach up to 157 only, and hence KKR won the match by 10 Runs. Probably it was the biggest changeover in the IPL 2020, where a match, almost won by CSK was lost. Rahul Tripathi was given the Player of the match for his fantastic inning of 81 runs in 51 balls.
