Papua New Guinea wins the first match against Hong Kong - Hong Kong recently underwent a tour of Australia where they faced Papua New Guinea in 2 match ODI series. The team was supposed to play only this series before going for their tour of Sri Lanka. The first match of the series was played in Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville. Here after winning the toss Hong Kong chose to bat first.

Batting first Hong Kong lost both the openers in just 3 overs. Irfan Ahmed lost his wicket after scoring 6 balls while Waqas Barkat lost his wicket on a duck. Anshuman Rath and Jamie Atkinson together put up a small partnership which saves the sinking ship. Anshuman after scoring 22 runs lost his wicket when the team had reached the score of 55 in 14th over. The middle order of the team didn’t gel up well and lost many wickets without affecting the scoreboard much. Atkinson scored 59 runs and lost his wicket in the 34th over. Later a partnership between Aizaz Khan and Haseeb Amjad took the team to a total of 202 at the end of innings. Khan scored 42 runs while Amjad scored 35 runs.

The Papua New Guinea required 203 runs to win in 50 overs and it was an easy target to chase but they too failed to get a good start. The team was reduced to 38/2 in just 7.3 overs. A partnership between Lega Siaka and Geraint Jones together put up a small partnership which took the team to a total of 66 in 13 overs. Jones was later on found Charles Amini who together took the team closer to the winning total. Jones scored 54 runs and lost his wicket. Amini scored 61 runs and made sure that the team crossed the line quite easily. Irfan Ahmed took 3 wickets in the match for Hong Kong.
