Northern Districts bowler manage to win the game for their team - The Defending champions of the Georgie Pie Super Smash series Northern Districts took on Otago in the 3rd match of the series. This match was played in the Seddon Park in Hamilton. It was the 2n match for both the teams in the tournament and Northern Districts emerged as the winners in their 1st match while the Otago lost their 1st match.

After winning the toss the Otago decided to put in Northern Districts to bat first. Using this opportunity the Northern Districts top order batsmen provided their team a good start. Daniel Flynn failed to score much but Anton Devcich and Dean Brownlie managed to score much of the runs for the 2nd wicket. Together they took their team to a score of 71 runs in 8 overs of the match. Devcich after scoring 23 runs lost his wicket leaving the team at 71/2. It was this time that the Otago found their way back in the match as they were successful in taking 2 more wickets restricting the team to 79/4 in 10 overs. Brownlie too lost his wicket after scoring 40 runs. Daryl Mitchell later made sure that all was not lost for his team as he scored 45 runs to take his team to a total of 145 at the end of 20 overs.

Otago required 146 runs to win and it was an achievable score. Jesse Ryder and Michael Bracewell together gave their team a steady start as they scored 67 runs in 10 overs for their team. After scoring 20 runs Bracewell departed in the 10th over and soon 2 balls later Ryder too departed after scoring 33 runs. Nathan McCullum and Ryan ten Doeschate tried to restructure their innings but McCullum lost his wicket after scoring 16 runs. Ryan managed to score 38 runs but lost his wicket in the 19th over of the game leaving his team to a score of 127/5. The lower order of the team was unable to score some quick runs and it resulted in Otago just scoring 135 runs thus losing the match by 10 runs. With this win the Northern Districts earned 4 more points in the table.
