Mumbai Indians keep their hopes alive with a win against Southern Express - Champions League qualifier moved on to a good stage when a team had almost made it to the main event while the two teams who lost their 1st match in the tournament faced each other in the 4th match of the qualifying round. The Mumbai Indians faced Southern Express in the city of Raipur. It was a must win match for both the teams to have a better hope of qualifying. Mumbai Indians after winning the toss decided to field first. The Southern Express got a good start reaching a score of 40 runs easily. The Mumbai Indians took some quick wickets and made a comeback in the game as the Southern Express reached the score of 90 losing 5 wickets in the process. The defending champions looked to be in control when a storm named Farveez Maharoof hit the grounds. He scored 41 important runs in just 22 balls to take his team to a score of 161 runs which certainly was a dream at one stage. He was well accompanied by Angelo Perera as he scored 28 runs in 28 balls. Harbhajan Singh was the most economical bowler for Mumbai.

The Mumbai Indians wanted a win in this match and al they wanted a good batting. Lendl Simmons and Michael Hussey provided the team a start which was enough for them to win the match. Both the players had a 139 runs partnership between them. Hussey after scoring 60 runs in 40 balls lost his wicket in the 15th over. He was the only player who lost his wicket as Mumbai Indians won the game by 9 wickets. Simmons scored 76 runs in 51 balls taking his team to victory with 22 balls remaining in the match. Simmons was rightly named as the OPPO man of the match for his outstanding batting performance. With this win the Mumbai Indians still have the chance of qualifying to the main league.
