(Cancelled) The cricket governing body of West Indies has announced that they will welcome the Ireland cricket team to play a T20I competition in the month of January 2022. Last time, Ireland and West Indies faced each other for a complete series in West Indies in the year 2020. The T20I series between West Indies and Ireland comprises a single T20 international match which will be held at Sabina Park, Jamaica on 16 January 2022.
The Ireland cricket team will visit West Indies for a single T20 international under the captaincy of Andrew Balbirnie with the head coach Graham Ford. On the other hand, Kieron Pollard will play the role of captain for the West Indies in the T20 series against Ireland. Currently, West Indies is at the 9th position whereas Ireland stands at 13th position in the ICC T20 team ranking.
Ireland played their first T20 international match against Scotland at Stormont, Belfast on 2 August 2008. As of December 2021, Ireland has played 106 T20I matches in which they won 44, lost 53, 2 ties, and 7 played without any outcomes. On the other hand, West Indies has played 149 T20I matches out of which they won 63, lost 74, 3 ties with 9 no results. Ireland has faced West Indies in the T20 international matches on 7 occasions where they successfully achieved victory on 2 instances but lost 3 matches with 2 matches without any outcomes in the shortest format of the game. This number shows that Ireland has the caliber to defeat Windes and it will be a great opportunity for them to win the series.
