Sammy’s Power Hitting Saves the Day For West Indies

Australia after having lost their 1st super 10 match looked forward to get their wagon back on winning ways against West Indies in Mirpur. West Indies fresh from the victory over Bangladesh looked forward to continue their winning streak. The Australian skipper won the toss and elected to bat first. After openers giving them a solid start Maxwell and Hodge provided the Australian innings the pace of run scoring as they scored 45 off 22 balls and 35 off 26 balls respectively. From West Indies Narine, Badree and Samuels took 2 wickets each as the Kangaroos posted 178 runs batting first.

A good solid start from West Indies laid the foundation stone for a victory. As Gayle scored 53 off 35 balls it looked that victory was comfortable. But the Australian bowlers choked the opposition for runs and hence at the end it was the heroic batting from Sammy that ensured the defending champions victory over the kangaroos. Sammy scored 34 off just 13 balls but it was in the last over when he hit two consecutive sixes to take his team home.
