Performance of South Africa Team in T20 World Cup
In the 2007 T20 world cup held in Johannesburg, South Africa didn’t perform as expected. It was placed in the group along with Bangladesh and West indies. South Africa won both fixtures and proceeded to super 8 stage. It won 2 matches out of 3 and lost the solitary one to Indian by 37 runs. The team couldn’t proceed to the knock out stage due to poor run rate.
In the next T20 World cup in 2009, South Africa won all the matches in the group and proceeded to the next round. In the super 8 stage, it again won all the three matches and ended up at the top of the table. The knockout stage saw the PROTEAS pitted against Pakistan and the former choked true to their reputation. Chasing a total of 149, South Africans could only make 142 and lost by 7 runs.
In the 2010 T20 world cup in West Indies, South Africa won only a single match and lost another one to India in the group. It entered the super 8 stage where it lost 2 matches out of 3 and ended up at the bottom of the table.
The 2012 T20 world cup in Sri Lanka saw the South Africans winning all the fixtures and moving into the Super 8 category where they lost all 3 encounters and exited from the tournament.
In 2014 T20 world cup proved to be luckier for PROTEAS as they finished second in their group but lost to India in knock out stage.
In 2016 T20 World Cup, again they could not qualify for the semi final matches.

South Africans have played two semi finals in 2009 and 2014 respectively. In 2009 they lost to Pakistan by 7 runs while in 2014 India handed them 6 wickets defeat.
