Ireland wins the 2nd match to make it tough for others in Pool B - The 16th match of the World Cup 2015 was played between two minnows United Arab Emirates and Ireland. It was a match between two teams which has been successful in impressing the cricketing world with their all-round performance. In this match after winning the toss Ireland chose to field first.
Batting first the team had a good start with the openers scoring 49 runs for the 1st wicket. UAE lost their 1st wicket in the 12th over of the game. Andri Berenger after scoring 13 runs lost his wicket. Ireland later struck back hard and took quick wickets to throw UAE in the back foot. Amjad Ali the highest top order scorer lost his wicket in the 19th over after scoring 45 runs. He left his team at 73 runs. Shaiman Anwar then took over the falling innings and with some help from the lower order batsmen he took his team to a total of 278 in 50 overs. He scored 106 runs in 83 balls. Amjad Javed scored 42 runs in 35 balls and these two batsmen helped them reach the much required score. Paul Stirling was the best bowler taking 2 wickets by giving away only 27 runs.
Ireland while chasing a score of 279 had a good start scoring 72 runs in 19 overs. It was here when they lost Ed Joyce after scoring 37 runs. Soon after this William Porterfild lost his wicket who scored 37 runs too. The lower middle order then came together and scored some important runs as Gary Wilson and Kevin O’Brien scored 80 and 50 runs respectively and took the team cross the required target in the last over with 4 balls remaining. With this Ireland won their 2nd match in the campaign and are looking strong to qualify for the next round. Gary Wilson was named as the man of the match.
