The team represents the Western Province of Sri Lanka and has been founded in the year 2012 along with the announcement Sri Lanka Premier League. The team is owned by Indian Cricket Dundee Limited who made the bid of $4.33 million to win the franchise of the team for themselves. The ownership of the team has been provided to them for next seven years. The team is based in Colombo and possesses R. Premadasa Stadium as their home town. The team is been captained by Tilakaratne Dilshan.
