Sydney Sixers Cricket Team

Sydney Sixers is one of the eight participants of the Big Bash League and is also one of the two teams representing Sydney in Australian first class domestic cricket in the format of twenty20 cricket along with Sydney Thunder. The Sydney Sixers team is the successor of the New South Wales Blues team which participated in the KFC twenty20 Big Bash tournament. The team has been formed in the year 2011 along with Big Bash League and is based in Sydney possessing Sydney Cricket Ground as their home ground. Sydney Sixers is the inaugural winner of the Big Bash League. Sydney Sixers had won the title twice in BBL history. The team is captained by Moises Henriques and coached by Greg Shipperd.

Sydney Sixers BBL Performance

2011-12

The team was first captained by wicket-keeper batsman Brad Haddin. Sydney Sixers played the first game of BBL against Brisbane Heat. They easily won the match and showed quality performance throughout the tournament. They qualified for Finals and played Final against Perth Scorchers and managed to win the match. They became the first champions of BBL. 

2012-13

The franchise changed the captain of the team, and Steven Smith was appointed as the new captain of Sydney Sixers. The defending champions failed to show quality performance and finished at 7th position. They won only 3 games out of 8.

2013-14

Moises Henriques was selected as the new captain of the team, and they bounced back in this season like champions. They finished the league stage at 2nd position and qualified for playoffs. Unfortunately, they failed to win the semi-final match and finished the season as semi-finalists.   

2014-15

Moises Henriques maintained his captaincy for Sixers team. It was a great run for Sixers. They finished the league stage at 4th position and qualified for playoffs. They won the knockout matches and reached to final of BBL 2014-15. The final was played between Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers. Perth Scorchers was the defending champions in BBL 2014-15, and they managed to defeat Sydney Sixers in the final match. Sydney Sixers finished as runners up in BBL 2014-15.

2015-16

This was the worst season for the Sydney Sixers team. Sydney Sixers won only 2 games out of 8 and finished the season at the bottom position. It was the horrible performance by both batsmen and bowlers of the Sixers team.

2016-17

Moises Henriques led the team from the front, and the Sixers finished the league stage at 3rd position. They won 5 league games out of 8. They reached to the Final of the season and played final match against Perth Scorchers. It was the 3rd time when Sixers and Scorchers competing against each other in Final match. Perth Scorchers defeated Sydney Sixers for the 2nd time in Final. Sydney Sixers finished as runners up.

2017-18

The team finished the league stage at 5th position and failed to qualify for playoffs. They won only 4 matches out of 10.

2018-19

Sydney Sixers played 14 league games in BBL 2018-19 and managed to win 8 matches and qualified for playoffs. The team was performing good but failed to win the knockout matches and finished the season at 3rd position.

2019-20

Sydney Sixers won the title in BBL 2019-20. They dominated the season and won 9 league games out of 18 and finished the league stage at 2nd position. They played final match against Melbourne Stars and managed to win the match and became the champions for the 2nd time in BBL history.
