The 1st match of the One Day International series between South Africa and Australia was played on February 29, Saturday at Boland Park, in Paarl. Wicket-keeper batsman Quinton De Kock was the captain of South African team, and the captain of Australian team was Aaron Finch. South African captain won the toss and elected to bat first.

South African debutant opener JN Malan departed on the very first ball of the match, and it was a terrific debut for him. Captain De Kock also got out early of the match and could make 15 runs only. David Miller and H Klaasen balanced the South African inning and formed a partnership of 149 runs. H Klaasen scored his brilliant maiden century and made not out 123 runs in just 114 balls while David Miller also scored 64 runs. South Africa made a total of 291 runs in their 50 over. Cummins took most 3 wickets for Australian side.

Chasing 292 was not an easy task for Australian batsmen against South African quick bowlers. Australian openers were failed to give a good start to the team, and captain Finch departed on just 10 runs. Warner also departed on 25 runs. Steven Smith and M Labuschagne played good innings and made a partnership of 84 runs. Steven Smith scored the most 76 runs for Australia while Labuschagne scored 41 runs. But other Australian batsmen were failed to play well, and Australian team got all out on 217 runs in just 45 over. L Ngidi took most 3 wickets for South Africa while A Nortje and T Shamsi took 2 wickets each.

South Africa won the 1st game of the series by 74 runs and took an early lead in the ODI series. H Klaasen was selected as the player of the match for his maiden brilliant not out match-winning century.
