The 3rd or last match of the one day international series between India and New Zealand was played on February 11, Tuesday at Mount Maunganui. New Zealand team was dominating the series and had sealed the series before this match. Therefore it was a chance for New Zealand team to whitewash Indian team and to take revenge of the T20 International series while India was playing for the pride of the team. Kane Williamson was the captain of New Zealand team, and Virat Kohli was the Indian skipper. Indian side did one change in the match and replaced Kedar Jadhav with Manish Pandey.

New Zealand won the toss and decided to field first. Indian opener Mayank Aggarwal failed one more time in the series and got out early in the innings. Captain Kohli also got out soon and was unable to score and contribute to the team. Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul balanced the Indian inning and moved to a considerable score. Shreyas Iyer scored a brilliant half-century while KL Rahul again showed his class and scored a century. Rahul made 112 runs on just 113 balls and helped India to reach a total of 296 runs in their innings.

New Zealand's openers gave a solid start to the team and made an excellent partnership of 106 runs. Both the Kiwi openers scored a half-century and were looking in good touch. Colin De Grandhomme also scored a not out match-winning half-century while Tom Latham contributed not out 32 runs. New Zealand chased the target comfortably left 17 balls to spare. Only Indian spinner Chahal was looking good and took 3 wickets while the rest of the bowlers were not in form. New Zealand opener Henry Nicholls was selected for the player of the match award for his brilliant knock of 80 runs. Captain Williamson appreciated the team performance and looked happy.
