The Final Test Match on the 28th of August brought victory to the Indian team after 22 years at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo at 10 am IST: After two consecutive Test Match, the score was 1-1 on each side. While the Sri Lankans left the Indian team behind after the first Test Match in the series, India gave equal competition to Sri Lanka by taking the lead of 278 runs in the second Test Match. Hence, this match was a tie breaker.

Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field. In the first inning of India, Cheteshwar Pujara scored 145 runs and remained not out till the end of India's first inning! From Sri Lanka's bowling, Dhammika Prasad gave the best performance by taking 4 wickets in the first innings. After India's first innings the score was 312 runs in 100.1 overs.

It was Sri Lanka's time to hold the bat. Surprisingly Angelo Mathews got out by scoring only 1 run. Kusal Perera and Rangana Herath were the only players who added 55 and 49 runs respectively and pulled the core higher. Coming to India's bowling, Ishant Sharma stole the show by taking down 5 wickets! The whole team got out with 201 runs in 52.2 overs.

India's second innings was comparatively dull as to what they achieved in the second test match. While Indian batsmen Stuart Binny and Ravichandran Ashwin managed to score half a century, Captain Kohli couldn't even reach the 30s and hence the team scored 274 runs in 76 overs.Sri Lanka had to score 386 runs to win the match and hence the players started well.

The second Sri Lankan Innings showed some progress when Angelo Mathews got back to form and scored 110 runs, but unfortunately, this effort of his, was in vain when Ishant Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin took down 3 and 4 wickets respectively. Sri Lanka could manage to score 268 runs in 85 overs and lost the match. India won by 117 runs!

Cheteshwar pujara was the man of the match and the best performances in bowling were of Ishant Sharma (India) and Nuwan Pradeep (Sri Lanka). The series ended with the India's celebration of victory after 22 years.
